A Clatskanie man was killed Saturday, April 26, in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 30 in Columbia County.

At about 2:30 p.m., Clatskanie resident Daren James McLeod, 48, was driving eastbound on Highway 30 in a Volkswagen Jetta when he crossed the center line into oncoming traffic near milepost 62, located east of Clatskanie.

McLeod crashed head-on into a Ford F-350 pickup truck that was hauling a camping trailer and was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck had minor injuries and was not transported to the hospital, according to authorities.

Oregon State Police responded to the crash with the assistance of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Columbia River Fire and Rescue, the Columbia County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Oregon Department of Transportation. The highway was closed for over four hours during the investigation.
